The Prostate Cancer Rehabilitation Clinic leads the way as one of the most integrated bio-psychosocial prostate cancer rehabilitation clinics in North America.
Our unique program was designed to address the challenges associated with changes in sexual and urinary function that affect the majority of men following radical prostatectomy. We approach these challenges from both a biomedical and psychological standpoint in order to offer the most comprehensive care to our patients. Our program consists of:
i) A systematic biomedical erectile rehab program
ii) Psychosocial counseling and a self-help manual developed specifically for post radical prostatectomy sexual dysfunction
iii) Ongoing collection of data to ensure the highest quality care
The PCRC incorporates biomedical treatment and psychosocial support to assist patients and their partners with rehabilitation post-surgery. Over the course of the Clinic, patients will be seen approximately 7 times (about once every 4 months), and will have access to a multi-disciplinary team consisting of a urologist, nurse, sexual health counsellor, psychologist, and clerk. Over the course of two years, the PCRC staff work with patients to encourage weekly sexual activity combined with pro-erectile therapy and assist patients and their partners in maintaining intimacy.
Every man who has had prostate cancer surgery at The Princess Margaret is invited to participate in the PCRC. Information about the clinic is provided at the pre-admission surgical teaching appointment.
The clinic is located at 123 Edward Street, Toronto, on the 14th floor in suite 1404.
